Services
Umbrella Mediation provides Family Dispute Resolution services for parenting matters, and mediation services for property and financial matters, in accordance with the Family Law Act 1975 (Cth). Mediation is a structured process designed to assist parties to discuss issues, explore options, and work toward practical arrangements.
Services are offered Australia-wide by Zoom. Face-to-face mediations are available anywhere in Australia, subject to agreement.
Parenting Matters
Umbrella Mediation can assist parents to discuss and negotiate a wide range of parenting issues, including:
parenting arrangements and schedules
time spent with each parent
changeovers and holiday arrangements
communication between parents
schooling, health, and extracurricular decisions
relocation discussions
interim parenting arrangements
The focus of mediation is on child-focused, workable arrangements that reflect the needs of the children and the circumstances of the family.
Property and Financial Matters
Mediation may also assist parties to discuss property and financial issues arising from separation, including:
property settlement discussions
division of assets and liabilities
superannuation considerations
practical interim financial arrangements
Mediation does not involve legal advice but may assist parties to clarify issues and identify options for resolution.
Section 60I Certificates
In parenting matters, parties are generally required to attempt Family Dispute Resolution before applying to the court, unless an exemption applies.
Umbrella Mediation is provided by an accredited Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner. A Section 60I certificate may be issued where appropriate and in accordance with legislative requirements. Certificates are not automatic and cannot be issued solely on request.
